What is Fashion Etiquette And Why Is It Helpful?
You wouldn't think there was such thing as fashion etiquette but there actually is such a thing. The rules in fashion have relaxed especially in the do not wear white after Labor Day, that has seemingly gone out the window. But there are still some experts that say there are fashion etiquette rules that should still be followed. Some of these basic rules would be do not wear beachwear to a job interview or do not wear club wear to a wedding. Here are a few of the rules for fashion etiquette that if you are serious about fashion, you will follow.
Point of Focus: Experts say you should choose a focal point for your outfit, This means that when you come into contact with someone that their eyes will divert to the one fashion accessory. It can be a dress, colorful blouse or shirt, sparking shoes or a glittered belt. If you make a shirt the focal point then make sure that the pants or skirt that you choose is not as noticeable, this would take away from the focus point.
Fashion Basics: many shoppers tend to buy clothes if they are considered to be trendy and there is nothing wrong with that but there should also be some basics in your closet as well. If you prefer items like skinny jeans or belt buckles that stand out then you may want to go with a classic white shirt. If you have a trendy belt with lots of shine then a great basic would be a classic black dress, It is great fashion sense to mix trendy with basic.
Tread Lightly on Accessories: Some people like to glam up their outfits with many, many accessories. Too many accessories is a fashion no-no, choose a nice necklace and a bracelet or two but try to keep the jewelry down to a few pieces. By adding more and more accessories it can really make your fashion sense look sloppy and unorganized.
Dress Accordingly: As we mentioned before proper fashion etiquette is dressing correctly for the right event. If you are dressing for a job interview, you want to keep it corporate but casual and if you are dressing for a party keep in mind the location of the party and dress appropriately. You want to impress people with the way you dress and in the world of fashion less is not more in most cases.
You want to people to admire your fashion sense not talk about you behind your back. You can look at fashion magazines to get ideas on what fashion etiquette is but you have to create your own style and what makes you comfortable. That is really what fashion is all about. If you dress up and wear 6-inch heels because you think they are the hottest things right now and you do not look comfortable in them then you don't understand what fashion means.
